Abstract

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the impact and mechanism of the diversity of core technological knowledge and market knowledge in the plants of OEMs on the introduction of new technologies in their overseas plants. We use 76 factories of three OEMs: Toyota, Honda, and Nissan. We employ multivariate analysis with 1444 panel data for 19 periods from 2002 to 2020. The results shows that product diversity and technology diversity have a positive effect on the introduction of new technologies, while technology product diversity have a marginal effect, but not technology product diversity. This research makes a theoretical contribution to organizational learning theory and a practical contribution to technological strategy in production plants.
