Various technologies and techniques are needed when packaging materials switch from conventional plastic to paper in the world. Since it is difficult to provide the functions of plastics to paper alone, paper-plastic composite materials are expected to increase. When recycling such packaging materials, it is also important to establish recycling methods or plastic laminated paper separation methods. Further, separated paper and board recycling such as removing foreign matter and deinking is necessary so that the plastic may not escape into the water environment, In this paper I will introduce many examples regarding the present situation in Western countries where the switch from conventional plastic to paper packaging materials is progressed. I will also explain the trend focusing on methods separating paper and plastic from the paper-plastic composite packaging material (especially food containers) which are expected to increase in the future.
