Knee joints are important as they support body weight in a standing position and maintain posture. These joints also play key roles in walking and other movements of the lower extremities. Therefore, problems in the knee joints affect motor functions and daily activities including walking, leading to decreased quality of life (QOL). Major diseases of the knee joints are divided into primary knee osteoarthritis in persons with no primary disease, but often with aging or obesity; and secondary knee osteoarthritis, which occurs secondary to an underlying disease, including trauma and metabolic joint disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis. The incidence of knee joint diseases increases with aging, with most cases involving primary knee osteoarthritis caused by aging and obesity. In this study, we examined changes in QOL from a holistic perspective using the KK scale for a subject with pain in the right knee while walking, which due to osteoarthritis, who received body treatment with essential oils once a week for eight weeks.
