Two type rails (50 kgN and 60 kg) are mainly laid on narrow-gauge lines now. Size, weight and rail profile of these rails are different. With regard to increasing irregularity of longitudinal level, it is clear that 60 kg rail is superior to 50 kgN rail. However, wear behavior is not discussed from the viewpoint of different rail crown radius. Therefore, wear behavior to these rails caused by wheels passing on high rail on sharp curved track was analyzed. Especially, FEM (Finite Element Method) contact stress analysis and laboratory experiments with a twin-disk test machine were carried out, and also wear behavior was evaluated. As a result, it was suggested that wear rate to these rails from the laboratory experiments was almost same. After these experiments, wear rate to these rail head profiles had been confirmed on site, and also wear rate to these rails was almost same. In these studies, it was found that different rail crown radius of 50 kgN and 60 kg rails did not have influence on the amount of rail side wear. In addition, we could gain useful information that it is possible to apply this test machine to solve rail/wheel interaction issues.
